Petrila Mine employee dies underground

A 51-year-old Petrila Mine employee fell ill and died underground on Wednesday. Representatives of the Hunedoara Territorial Labor Inspectorate were informed about the incident.

Hunedoara police were informed that a 51-year-old man died on Wednesday following an incident that occurred underground at a mining operation in the town of Petrila.

The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. and is classified as a work accident.

„A police patrol was dispatched to the scene, and following the checks, it was determined that an employee at work, in the area of ​​the conveyor belt flow, at the 300 horizon, had suffered a medical problem, as a result of which he was hurt. The man was transported to the surface in a state of unconsciousness, where two medical teams – one from SMURD and one from the Petroșani Emergency Hospital – performed resuscitation maneuvers. Unfortunately, despite the efforts made, he was declared dead,” the Hunedoara Police reported.

The operational team was requested to the scene of the incident to conduct an on-site investigation and establish all the circumstances of the event.

A criminal case was filed in the case for manslaughter, as well as for failing to take and comply with legal occupational health and safety measures.

At the same time, representatives of the Hunedoara Territorial Labor Inspectorate were informed about the incident.
