Mureșan: European funds are for people, not for extremists like Marine Le Pen

„European funds are to improve people’s lives, not to finance corrupt extremist politicians like Marine Le Pen. Today’s ruling by the French judiciary against far-right leader Marine Le Pen for fraud with EU funds is further proof that anti-European extremist politicians do not act in the interest of the people, but against them. It is the same in France, it is the same in Romania. Extremists are a danger for European funds”, Siegfried Mureșan wrote on Facebook on Monday.

As chief negotiator on the EU’s next multiannual budget, Mureșan says he will advocate that the relevant institutions, such as the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, be given sufficient resources to investigate all possible fraud with EU funds.

Marine Le Pen and 8 MEPs were found guilty of embezzlement of public funds on Monday by a Paris court. As a result, the leader of France’s far-right party will be barred from running for the French presidency for the next 5 years.
